The first train station at Tamaqua (center right with white paint and cupola on roof) stood until 1873. The first station was in place by the early 1840s and stood until it burned down in 1873. This event created an opportunity to build a replacement passenger depot building.
In 1874, the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad designed and erected an elaborate Victorian-styled passenger station to replace this earlier wood structure after it been destroyed by fire.
