1860 – P&R Railroad Car Shops, built of stone circa 1860s, stood where the present day Tamaqua Ambulance Headquarters is located.

The P&R used its Tamaqua car shops primarily for maintenance and repair of rolling stock and construction of new railcars, thereby enhancing its operational efficiency and service reliability.

The operation of the Tamaqua car shops also provided significant employment opportunities within the local community. Skilled workers were needed for various tasks such as carpentry, metalworking, painting, and assembly. This not only contributed to the local economy but also ensured that a skilled workforce was available for ongoing railroad operations.
